CAMP:
June 14 -July 2 , 2010
Cimarron Opera's Summer Camp has been serving children and youth ages 9 -15 since 1996. In this our 15th year, due to repeated requests from our campers and their parents, we are extending the age range to 9-18.
Our 2010 camp production will be Gilbert and Sullivan's HMS Pinafore, and we will be experimenting with a new format. This year the camp wil run for three weeks but have an extended day, from 9 am to 5 pm. This will allow us to offer small group classes in voice, acting, stage movement, and stage combat. We are looking forward to this new adventure!
Through the generosity of the First Presbyterian Church, CCOC will use the church’s facilities for the preliminary weeks of classes, rehearsals and guest presentations. The camp will then move to the Nancy O'Brian Center for the Performing Arts for dress rehearsals and our final performances.
The Gilbert and Sullivan repertoire is funny and fun for the participants -- the full operas are abridged by the Music Director for presentation by the Summer Camp, and the dialogue is partially revamped for clarity. Through the camp experience, the young people learn to support each other, and develop friendships and shared interests that endure long past the final curtain of Summer Camp. The end result of the camp is not only the performances, but a core group of young Oklahomans with an enthusiastic appreciation for opera and musical theater.
